Do you think that the symbol of the 'A' that PEarl put on her bossom was of any meaning? When I think about it, it was made of green, which was the color assciated with healing and growth, could that be it?
Pearl is such a complicated character! I think green, to Pearl, is more symbolic of nature because she is such an "elf child" and "nymph." Both mother and daughter make the A beautiful in a way that speaks of them and their uniqueness.
The letter A seems to symbolize something very different for Pearl, she see's only her mother wear it and does not yet understand what it stands for. She finds it to be something she idolizes and desires to wear herself when she becomes a woman. The letter A on her chest also seems to be a method which Hester is yet again scorned, through her daughter's desire to mimic her and for Hester to have to explain what the A really symbolizes.
