It talks about the woods and describes the people in the scene as harden men of the woods, yet at the same time it goes on and tells a story with a very developed plot that goes into the mind of the charactors as well.
The author, Cooper, intertwines the elements of a sentimental novel and a frontier adventure story through love and marriage, and warfare and racial tensions. The tensions developed in the story include intercultural relationships. The women in the story are portrayed by Cooper with sentiment values, but also include them in the adventure of combat. The romance in the story is brought to a rise of heighten emotions because of the warfare situation which makes the story more dramatic. The female characters manage to involve romance in difficult situations. The frontier adventure is shown through the warfare and Indians with death and near death experiences. The two themes are well blended
I agree 100% with you and that this story is about adventure and discovery for they are goint to places they have not been and that they are discovering themsleves in a new way.
I agree with Terri because ii is not only the adventure and warfare going on , but discovering of who they are. Is racial tension necessary comes to mind.
It is about men who know the woods very well going to the aid of people who are utterly helpless in the woods. The good natives (Uncas, Chinogook, (Hawkeye)) are all very good at navagating and tracking go to help the women and soldier to try and outrun the Huron who are also very good at going through the woods. frontier adventure would be navagating the woods while the sentimental would be when the people come together and form a bond.
This story embodies the story of love and strife, war between the British and the French and between Indians and whites. There are a lot of variables occurring at the same time. In examining the romance, attraction, and affection it is evident in the relationship between Duncan and Alice, they are drawn to one another but not destined to be as he is expected to marry Cora. Munro is shocked to find that Duncan was interested in her as opposed to Cora, and thus sets the stage for a possible love that will not be able to flourish. This leaving the reader hopeful something will come of their relationship. In examining the aspect of war, there are many. First between the British and the French, both of who to lay claim to America and the colonists caught in the midst. The battles ensue between the Indians and differing tribes exacerbated by the presence of the British and French who desire to set them further against one another. The Indians are used for the purpose of warfare while being manipulated into giving up their land to the whites.
