Antonia 14

Describe Ántonia’s life with her family at the end of the novel. How does her family life
affect Jim?

  1. Antonia lived in Hastings, Nebraska, married with eleven children. Her dream has come true, to have land of her own and many delightful little children running wild all over the place. She works hard and is weary. Antonia's life was a difficult one. Jim sees Ántonia with life surrounding her: in her children, in the fruits and trees surrounding the house, in the farm animals running around, and in the playful interactions of her and her children. She is energetic and full of life. Jim admires all of Ántonia's children. All through her life's difficulties, she remained devoted to whatever family she had. Thoughts of her family always came before thoughts of herself. Jim sees her as the mother of people who love the land, each other, and life itself. Antonia is the richest in life and love and is repaying the land, which nurtured her in her youth, with new life, her own offspring.

  2. I think it touchs him. He dosn't have a family of his own so he adopts hers. Antonia has become more gental and careing, if that is possible. She stops hunting and she seems to want to safe the old ways through her family. Her son plays her dad's violen and they speek there native language.
