  1. 3. Stanislovas filled lard cans “till the end of his days.” Predict what you think will happen to him.

I think you are going to see him die at a young age, it wasn't uncommon back then for accidents and their was no more protection for the children as their was for the adults.

What role does Grandmother M play in the story?? Thinking of the book as a work of fiction.

  2. 1. Why is it so important to Elzbieta to have a religious symbol in their home?
Elzbieta wants a symbol in their home because religion plays a big part in her life and guides her into thinking it fundamental to achieve successes. Teta wants religion to be symbolized in their home to show gratitude and faith towards God. Without God, they would not be alive and would not have the opportunity for a better life in America because the belief of religion is a God they can count on.
    2. What does Grandmother Majauszkiene tell her neighbors about their house, the history of Packingtown, and work conditions at Packingtown?
Grandmother Majauszkiene represents the reality check for the immigrants who think that the solution for their life is America. She tells neighbors of the reality of the house they bought, she brings out the flaws the real estate agent tried to cover up and made sure everyone knew that they were scammed into buying a 15-year-old house. She let Jurgis and his family know that America is not the place they thought of and the people in America look out for their own benefit. Americans are selfish and corrupt.

    3. Stanislovas filled lard cans “till the end of his days.” Predict what you think will happen to him.
I think an accidental death may happen for Stanislovas because he is working a man’s job or an adult’s job, while being just 14 years old and operating very dangerous machinery. When the author relates that Stanislovas ´´will fill lard cans till the end of his days´´ he indirectly implies that Stanislovas is aware of the danger that he goes through and then the author leads the reader into concluding that he will die.

    1. Yes I agree that Stanislovas will have an accidental death when he started with the lard cans. this place they were working is no place for a boy let alone anyone else. And i agreed with you about concluding about his death from the was the author put it.

  3. 1. Why is it so important to Elzbieta to have a religious symbol in their home?
She wants their home to be safe, protected, blessed, and righteous in the eyes of God. She is bringing tradition with her from Lithuania, in hopes of having the home feel the part of a home. Just as was the wedding reception, the presence of a religious symbol reminds her of their rich ancestry and culture, that no matter where they are they always have those things to look upon and remember during hard times.
