  1. 6. What happens when Jurgis goes looking for Marija?
Jurgis is at a large house asking about Marija, the police arrive and Jurgis realizes the house is a brothel. Jurgis had found out that Marija is working as a prostitute. Marija explains that neither she nor Teta Elzbieta could support the children with legitimate jobs. Jurgis has learned from Marija of Stanislovas' death and that Marija is addicted to morphine. Marija also told Jurgis that the family does not blame him for running away. Jurgis is jailed with the other men, but is released the next morning. Jurgis does not like the fact that Marija feels prostitution is her only option.

  2. 8. What news does she have about Tamoszius, Stanislovas, and the rest of the family? Marija feels that Ona could have made
enough money for all of them and should have been allowed to do so. Does Jurgis agree? How can you tell? Do you agree? She has not spoken to him for over a year after he had an injury and fell away from her. Stanislovas is killed by rats in the Lard factory having gotten drunk and passed out there after the place closed, eaten alive. Marija has become completely indifferent to the lifestyle of a prostitute and says that Ona could have taken care of the family and he never would have needed to know or be concerned about it. She is inferring that they would have been fine if Jurgis would not have intervened and let his wife do what she simply had to in order to support the family.

    1. to be killed by rats i find was a terrible death for the boy, i really dislike how she really doesn't think much of prosistution and that ona could have handled it.
